Free Love 2021

Our annual Free Love event, like most things in the event industry, looked a little different this year than the last. Even with a pandemic at large, and a historic winter storm wrecking havoc across the state, this year’s Free Love was one for the books.

At Loot, we value community, and Free Love is our way of giving back to that community that has given so much to us. We create a carefully curated, specially designed wedding ceremony and celebration completely for free on Valentine’s Day. Typically we open it up to 14 couples (because, ya know, February 14th), but this year, in order to carefully monitor the safety of our vendors and guests, we narrowed it down to two couples. 

We announced Free Love 2021 by calling for nominations of couples who had been on the frontlines of dealing with Covid-19 in some capacity. Enter Erin and Sig, and Aliza and Chris. 

Erin and Sig are both journalists who have been tirelessly covering the events of the last year. They had to put many plans on hold that they made for their future, including the big wedding they had wanted with all their friends and family present. 

Aliza and Chris are occupational therapists whose rehab facility in the hospital they work at was partially converted into a Covid-19 recovery zone. After sadly losing Aliza’s grandfather and Chris’s brother in the same year, they chose to relocate their destination wedding plans so as to ensure the safety of their guests.

We were so excited to get to provide both of these very deserving couples with a wedding worthy of their dreams, and had planned on creating the intimate celebration for them on Valentine’s Day in the courtyard of Page Home Design. But, if 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that plans can change.

 After many scheduling and venue changes due to the winter storm that ravaged nearly the whole state with power and water outages, we finally landed on February 28th at Hotel Magdalena for the event. Most of our original vendor team was able to be on board, including Feather & Twine Photography, House of Margot Blair Florals, and Word of Mouth Catering.

The outcome of Free Love 2021 was nothing short of stunning. The venue was the perfect intimate spot and we were thrilled, as always, to get to be part of such a special moment in these couples’ lives.
