Head Out West: Our Marfa Guide
Mystery. Magic. Marfa.
This West Texas town moves at it’s own pace. Stores and restaurants are open when they want to be, and much of the town observes Monday as an extension of the weekend. We are inspired by the calm minimalism of local design and art, and the contrast of contemporary and natural elements that makes Marfa so alluring. Loot has brought that to Austin with our summery vibe, Marfa Homage.
GPS will tell you it’s a 6 hour drive, but that doesn’t include bathroom breaks and according to Melissa, Stylist + Client Relations Manager, a required stop at Dairy Queen. So get the car packed up for the weekend, because Marfa is just far enough away for an adventure but close enough to make it the perfect weekend getaway. Maybe a long weekend…
Here’s a few of our favorite things to do in Marfa!
Sunrise Tour at the Chinati Foundation
This one is worth the early rise! Housing Donald Judd’s 100 untitled works, the Chinati Foundation is a contemporary art museum based upon the ideas of its founder, Judd. Located on 340 acres of land, the foundation was opened to the public in 1986. A sunrise tour gives you the chance to see the sculptural work in all its glory.
Get your pic at Prada Marfa
For those of us who don’t go to Prada for the crocodile bags, but want to physically participate in the ongoing conversation on minimalism and consumerism… or get a great pic for their Instagram, this is a must stop. This installation by Elmgreen and Dragset doesn’t have a working door, but does house pieces from a 2005 Prada collection. It’s perfectly random.

Stay at El Cosmico
A chic campground that’s managed to cultivate it’s own culture in the middle of the desert and garnish loyal visitors who come from near and far to stay in their vintage trailers, teepees, yurts, and tents.

Our Business Development Manager, Alyssa, starting her day off right.
If it’s been too long since you’ve been in an outdoor shower, it’s time for a visit.
Feel the love at Trans-Pecos Festival of Music + Love 2018

“Let us go then, you and I, to the 13th Annual Trans-Pecos Festival of Music + Love in Marfa, Texas.”
A music festival under the stars, in the middle of nowhere. Need we say more?
Early bird ticket sales are closed, but this year’s lineup and tickets will be going on sale this summer for the September 20 – 23, 2018 festival!!
